Fulton County District 5 Libraries...

The stakeholders of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System have realized for some time that a comprehensive master plan for library facilities is needed.  It was clear that the Board of Commissioners and Library Board of Trusties needed and wanted a plan to guide decisions on facilities: identifying where citizens are un-served, where they are undeserved, where libraries are most needed, what is the optimal size, and what improvements need to be made to our existing facilities- a plan that will examine these issues for the entire service area, not just one neighborhood or community.  Most importantly, this much needed and desired plan must be fair, unbiased, and based on good information and valid, authoritative data.  We believe the plan below accomplishes this.  To view the plan click the link below:

• 5-10-10: Bowen/Bankhead (Temporary) Branch Library Opens

  The Grand Opening of the (temporary) Bowen/Bankhead Branch Library was held on Friday, April 16.  Located near the (former) Bowen Homes Community, the Library will provide quality services to the surrounding communities until the (new) Northwest Regional Library Construction Project scheduled for July 2011 has been completed.

• County Manager’s Recommendation for Programs Management Services Under Review

  The recommendation of the County Manager for a contract award to Jacobs with Gude for Program Management Services Library Facilities Program Phase I, ($3,334,928) has been held.  Other (directly or indirectly) related procurements to the program will also be held including: Financial Advisory Services (PMF Group), Bond Counsel, Hunton and Williams, Underwriter’s Services: Citibank, Goldman Sacks, Raymond James, Jackson Securities, and others.

• 11-5-09: Temporary Locations set for Bowen Homes and Bankhead Courts Libraries

  Effective January 1, 2010, The Bowen Homes and Bankhead Courts branch libraries will be temporarily re-located to 2685 Donald L. Hollowell Parkway (formally Bankhead Highway).  According to County Officials, construction of the (25,000 sq. ft.) Northwest Regional Library is scheduled to begin in early 2011.
