5-10-10: Board of Commissioners Recognizes National Older Americans Month

By unanimous Resolution, the Board of Commissioners recognized National Older Americans Month in Fulton County at the May 5, 2010 meeting of the BOC.  A month-long celebration includes seventeen (17) neighborhood centers and four (4) senior multi-purpose-facilities- Henry Bowden (East Point), Harriett G. Darnell (Northeast Atlanta), Dorothy G. Benson (Sandy Springs), and Helene B. Mills (Central Atlanta).  Fulton County’s program will focus on health education and prevention, community participation, the arts, and strategic planning.

“Some people believe”, Commissioner Darnell said “that communities make seniors.  This is incorrect.  In Fulton County, seniors make communities.”  “A sustainable community is composed of all the people irrespective of age,” she stated.
